Suitland Seniors’ Secret Santa Surprise
COVID-19 2019 has been a definite depressant for most of us, but for seniors, it has had an exponentially large negative impact on their emotional well-being. In Suitland, Maryland, Prince George’s County’s largest community of seniors, seniors have suffered through personal health fears, the loss of family and friends, an increase in food insecurity, and more. At Belnor Senior Residences in Suitland, even neighbor interactions and group events have been eliminated, thus contributing more to a sense of isolationism and depression.
To save the day during this holiday season, a group of Secret Santa’s, led by White Rose Foundation Inc of Prince George’s County, G.S. Proctor & Associates, Patuxent Nursery and L.A.Bolden Company, have come together to surprise the residents at Belnor Senior Residences. The surprise started with a beautiful installation of Christmas decorations in the building’s library-den. Then on Tuesday, December 22nd each resident will receive the gift of a poinsettia plant. Gloria Lawlah, the president of the White Rose Foundation and former Maryland Secretary of Aging, stated that “it is a mission of WRF to serve seniors, and through partnership with facilities like Belnor, we are able to fulfill that mission. When L.A.Bolden Company called us to assist, we rapidly said YES! It will be our pleasure to do what we can to put much needed smiles on the faces of our seniors in the community.” In addition to the Secret Santa project, the WRF, through a grant from Care First, will be leading a food pantry project for seniors in Suitland and Prince George’s County. The food pantry will begin in 2020.
The poinsettia gifts will be placed at the door of each resident at Belnor Senior Residences at 3800 St Barnabas Road, Suitland, Maryland beginning at 1pm on Tuesday, December 22, 2020. Suitland Seniors’ Secret Santa Surprise
